Looking for help with I do's...
In late 2011, I received my ordination from Universal Life Church as a way to joke about being legally ordained. At the time, I found myself religiously ambiguous, so I took note of their motto, "We are all children of the same universe." It spoke to me more than that of traditionally organized religions. One morning, I woke up to a text message from a friend that read "Hey, are you still ordained?" Later that night, I was driving out to Nampa where I helped my friends get married at home in front of their family. I was terrified.
Fast forward a few years and a stream of requests, I take a much different tone with regards to my role as a ULC Minister. Having lived in the Treasure Valley since 2002, I recognize that the conservative values of the state have not alleviated the growing need for non-traditional wedding ceremonies in our community, and I wanted to be an option that gave anyone the wedding of their dreams.
My personal belief is that there is a window of time in your life when you meet someone that you can connect with on a deeper level than you could connect with any other living person. Capturing that love is a joy that everyone should be privileged enough to experience, regardless of their religious belief, personal identity, or sexuality.
Simply put, all people deserve to love and to be loved.
